Why come to Cortina

Cortina is known as the “Queen of the Dolomites”

Not coincidentally it is the only Italian town that became part of the Best of the Alps, the association of the 12 most popular mountain resorts in the Alps.

Situated in a wide valley, Cortina is surrounded by meadows and forests that extend up to the wonderful Dolomites, Unesco World Heritage

The first visitors to the Ampezzo valley were the English and German climbers, attracted by the beauty of the mountains that form a ring. With the assignment of the VII Olympic Winter Games in 1956, Cortina was consecrated amongst the most famous tourist resorts of the world.

The snow of winter, the awakening of nature in spring, cool summer climate and the colours of the Dolomites in autumn, make Cortina the ideal base for holidays in the mountains, to live all year round.

Numerous excursions by foot or by mountain bike, stretch in the Natural Park of the Ampezzo Dolomites and in the largest open-air museum of the Great War of Lagazuoi, 5 Torri, Sasso di Stria and the Tre Sassi Fort. In winter it is possible to visit the places of the world conflict on skis along the Great War Tour: Eighty kilometers between history and unique landscapes in the world.

Fully equipped with lifts, refuges and hotels for a skiing holiday in the ski resort of the Dolomiti Superski, Cortina is a wellness resort in the open air. Try the sauna barrel higher in the Dolomites, on top of the Lagazuoi at 2752 meters above sea level, or the Finnish sauna next to Lake Federa, in one of the most romantic places in the Dolomites.

Linked to its ancient history, Cortina has retained its identity as a mountain village from centuries-old traditions. Beloved by writers and directors of all times, today Cortina boasts a rich cultural life of national scope. In both summer and winter it hosts international sporting events, such as the Womens Skiing World Cup ,  and the International Summer Curling Tournament.
